Three words we found best captured the way of life represented in Color Field Coffee Co. Using the inspiration of color field painting, the connection to Maine’s wildlands, and a passion for local makings, we crafted a brand that is welcoming and inspiring.

How can design communicate a coffee bean’s tasting notes using only visual elements?

design elements

The logo utilizes the profile of a coffee bean to silhouette the letters C F—this sets an organic tone for the brand.

The microtext encloses the form and pulls the viewer closer to the product.

The Wakened Bird is an element on the inaugural bag design based on a Wallace Stevens poem, and has grown into a mascot for the brand integrated into almost every branded product.

brand identity

Family-owned salsa company located in Big Bear Lake, California. They chop and grind their curated herbs, spices and peppers in their home kitchen, and distribute their product in local markets. The grizzly mascot, Oso, represents a fierce scoop of their salsa. The line-drawn details are inspired by the Spanish Colonial architecture of the region and their home.

The feelings behind the design were intended to be playfulness, melodrama, and connection to the land.

Variations
